By Haroon Habib – DHAKA, FEB. 27. In an exchange of fire between the Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), two men of the BSF were killed on Saturday at Barshalupara frontier in northern Panchagarh. A commander of 20 Rifles Battalion, BDR, however, said that he heard only about some BSF men being struck by bullets. He was “not aware of any death.” Local dailies quoted officials as saying that hundreds of rounds were fired in the BDR-BSF clash. Both sides flew white flag on Friday afternoon and decided to hold a flag meeting at zero point of the Barshalupara border at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday. At the meeting BDR officials were told that a dam would be constructed to check the erosion caused by the Nagar river at Barshalupara. However, tension gripped the frontier areas as firing began after the flag meeting, media reports said. Several villagers on the border fled their homes during the eruption of clash, the reports said.
